Etiquetado: Triclabendazole
Triclabendazole 250 Mg is a highly effective antiparasitic medication primarily used to treat fascioliasis, a liver infection caused by the parasites Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica. Fascioliasis occurs when people ingest contaminated water or aquatic plants containing immature fluke larvae. Once inside the body, the parasites migrate to the liver and bile ducts, causing inflammation, abdominal pain, fever, and digestive disturbances.
Triclabendazole belongs to the benzimidazole class of drugs, but unlike other medications in this group, it is specifically effective against both immature and adult stages of liver flukes. This broad activity is one of the main reasons it is considered the treatment of choice for fascioliasis.
The drug works by disrupting the parasite’s microtubule formation. Microtubules are essential structural components within the cells of the fluke, helping maintain cell shape and supporting vital processes such as nutrient absorption and intracellular transport. By binding to parasite tubulin, triclabendazole interferes with these functions, ultimately impairing the worm’s metabolism and survival.
In addition, triclabendazole affects the parasite’s outer surface (tegument), increasing its vulnerability to the host’s immune response. This combined effect leads to paralysis and eventual death of the flukes, allowing the body to eliminate them naturally through the biliary system.
Triclabendazole is usually administered orally, often as a single dose or two divided doses taken on the same day, depending on the severity of infection and medical guidance. It is generally well tolerated, although mild side effects such as headache, nausea, or abdominal discomfort may occur.
Overall, triclabendazole remains a safe and reliable therapy for effectively clearing liver fluke infections and preventing complications associated with untreated fascioliasis.
